TIMAC 10/11 Deadline is April 30
Initiated in the fall of 2004, the Technology Integration Mentor Academy (TIMAC) is a peer-mentoring-based professional development initiative with the goal of supporting individuals at adult education agencies to become the technology mentor for their program. Applications for the 2010-11 Academy are being accepted now and are due by midnight, April 30, 2010.
CAAL Primer on Creating and Funding Legislation
Council for Advancement of Adult Literacy (CAAL) has published a 4-page "primer" to help demystify the process by which laws are proposed, passed and funded by the US Congress.
The focus of the primer is to help adult education providers understand how the authorization and appropriation processes work in the US Congress and provides a comprehensible overview of this process, which can take up to many years, and gives special attention to the best times to provide input and affect the outcome of important legislation and funding.

Online Professional Development from CALPRO
CALPRO is offering three new professional development (PD) resources for ESL Instruction. Through these resources ESL teachers can join a growing community of ESL adult educators across California and discover a wealth of free, researched-based materials and practical instructional strategies
Teaching Critical Thinking, Managed Enrollment, and Advising the Adult Learner: The Teacher's Role are the topics of three new professional development workshops offered online, in real time, from The California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO). To participate, all you need is a computer with a high-speed Internet connection and a telephone to join a toll-free teleconference. Registration is limited and enrollment is based on a first-come, first-registered basis.
National Education Technology Plan
Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan has released a draft of the National Education Technology Plan (NETP). This document, entitled "Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology," describes how information and communication technologies can help transform American education, and provides concrete goals to inform state and local educational technology plans, and recommendations to inspire research, development, and innovation. To achieve these goals, the NETP calls for "revolutionary transformation" rather than "evolutionary tinkering."
