OTAN Online Workshops (webinars) for Professional Development

Online Training

Once again OTAN is offering over 20 free online workshops to help your teachers gain new technology skills to enhance classroom delivery of curriculum. These hour and a half workshops focus on providing teachers with "just in time" skills they can use in their classrooms the next day. Teachers can train as a group in a computer lab equipped with a digital projector and high speed internet connection, or individually from anywhere with a high speed connection

Keep checking our Web site for the new schedule - we hope to have it posted by September.

If you have any questions, or ideas for future workshops, contact Penny Pearson at: ppearson@otan.us. Your ideas and suggestions are important to us!

All staff responsible for the technology plan are encouraged to take advantage of the online training being offered by OTAN in September and October, especially those who are new to the technology planning process or would like a refresher. The training will help you become familiar with the optional professional development plan, and to decide if this will be a useful option for your instructors.

Adult Education and Economic Growth Act Introduced

U.S. Capitol Dome at night

Legislation to increase the scope and effectiveness of adult education, literacy, and workplace skills programs to ensure adult Americans are prepared for the jobs of the future has been introduced in the House of Representatives.

"This bill is not the reauthorized [Workforce Investment Act] WIA bill," notes the National Council of State Directors of Adult Education (NCSDAE), "Rather it will be used to inform the reauthorization of WIA." As a free-standing bill, AEEG could either be amended into appropriate sections of the WIA reauthorization or replace appropriate sections of the WIA bill during the mark-up phase.
