Register Now for the Technology and Distance Learning Symposium
Registration is now open for the Technology and Distance Learning Symposium, which will be held at the Willow Center of Hacienda La Puente Adult School on February 25-6, 2011. Registration is free! You may register for one or both days (Friday and Saturday), but you must register by February 18 in order for us to have an accurate lunch count.
The Symposium will include an update on developments in distance learning and technology integration by John Fleischman, Assistant Superintendent at the Sacramento County Office of Education in charge of Technology Services, and Marian Thacher, Director of OTAN. There will also be many workshops of interest to teachers, coordinators and administrators, and planned strands for ESL, ABE, ASE and CTE.
As we move forward with the strategic plan and a new delivery model for adult education that emphasizes transition to work and further education and training as well as civic responsibility, distance learning and the educational opportunities provided by technology are more important than ever for our learners. Take advantage of this opportunity to network with your peers from across the state and share your questions, thoughts and experience.
Field Comments on the Strategic Plan
A new draft of the strategic plan for adult education, Linking Adults to Opportunity, was posted on October 13, and professionals in the field had the opportunity to review it and post comments until November 5. The comments are now posted online. The Adult Education staff at CDE, along with WestEd, are now working to review and integrate the comments into the next draft. The Planning Group, which includes the Field Partnership Team, the Steering Committee, and the Adult Education Office consultants, reviewed all comments and provided guidance on particular issues. The next draft is expected to be posted early next year, and there will be a subsequent period for comments by the public.
