Bob Harper is ACSA Adult Education Administrator of the Year

ACSA

The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the nation, serving more than 14,500 school leaders. Each year ACSA recognizes a select group of individuals for their significant contributions to education. In addition, members are honored for outstanding performance and achievement as Administrators of the Year in 21 job-alike categories.

Bob Harper, director of Adult Community Education in the Campbell Union High School District has been named ACSA's 2014 Adult Education Administrator of the Year.

Campbell Adult Community Education opens doors to community members who may otherwise not have opportunities. It serves generations of learners, from those who need to recover credits to those who have the dream of finishing their education. Harper, who has held his current position since 2009, is a longtime adult educator. Previously, he was director/assistant director of adult education in Salinas UHSD, Pacific Grove Adult School, and Pajaro Valley and San Mateo adult schools. Having begun his career as a teacher, he said the transition into administration was a natural one.

"I liked having the ability to be a student advocate – keeping their voice and perspective clearly understood in the decision-making process, and to have an influence on the quality of what students experience," Harper said. "Also, way back in the 1980s there was a strong movement toward shared decision-making, school-based management, quality circles, etc. That kind of management theory and practice appealed to my values and temperament."
