Assembly Bill 86 - Adult Education Consortium - Web Site Launched

AB 86

The California Community College Chancellors Office (CCCCO External link opens in new window or tab) and the California Department of Education (CDE External link opens in new window or tab) have launched a Web site, http://ab86.cccco.edu/ External link opens in new window or tab, as a central point of information about implementation of Assembly Bill (AB 86) requirements.

AB 86 became law as part of the 2013-14 State Budget process. The budget appropriated $25 million to the Chancellors Office to allocate funding for two-year planning and implementation grants. AB 86 outlines expectations for consortium development as well as planning and implementation requirements to establish the Adult Education Consortium Program External link opens in new window or tab.

The AB 86 Web site will include frequently asked questions, related documents, meeting agendas and minutes, and a time line overview. Town hall meetings, informational webinars, field surveys, and a listserv will be among the venues whereby all stakeholders will have an opportunity to provide feedback and input to the process.

The AB 86 Web site can be accessed directly at, http://ab86.cccco.edu/ External link opens in new window or tab, or from the Adult Ed Organizations page on OTAN.

October 2013 is Connected Educator Month

Connected Educator

The Department of Education will be supporting another Connected Educator Month (CEM) in October 2013. The mission of the Connected Educators initiative is to help educators thrive in a connected world. Such environments are envisioned in theĀ 2010 National Educational Technology Plan External link opens in new window or tab and are soon to become the norm due to efforts such as ConnectED External link opens in new window or tab. Connected Educators pursue this mission through seeking to understand and promote educators learning and collaborating through online communities of practice and social networks. That pursuit combines research, development, and outreach.

Connected Educators is an initiative of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education and is conducted by the American Institutes for Research in collaboration with several partner organizations and technical working groups.
